Alice Cooper Announces 'Devil on My Shoulder' Memoir for Fall Release

Alice Cooper has cheated death thousands of times — onstage, at least. Now the godfather of shock rock is ready to lay it all bare in a new memoir titled *Devil on My Shoulder*, scheduled for release on Oct. 6.
The book is being billed by his publisher as the "definitive autobiography," a bold claim for an artist who has already told his life story twice. Cooper, born Vincent Furnier, published *Me, Alice* back in 1976, right in the thick of his theatrical peak, and followed it up with *Golf Monster* in 2007, a book that leaned heavily into his unlikely passion for the links.
*Devil on My Shoulder* promises something different — a full-scope reckoning with a career that spans nearly six decades of fake blood, boa constrictors, and guillotine stunts that helped redefine what a rock concert could be.
At 78, Cooper is in a unique position to reflect. The memoir will reportedly dig into the creation of the Alice Cooper character, which Furnier and his original bandmates built from the ground up in the late 1960s, transforming a scrappy Phoenix garage band into one of the most provocative acts in rock history. Hits like "School's Out," "Poison," and "No More Mr. Nice Guy" became anthems, but the spectacle was always the calling card.
“It's a tension Cooper has spoken about in interviews for years, but never with the depth a full memoir allows.”
The book will also explore the duality that has defined Cooper's existence — the gap between the snarling, eyeliner-smeared villain who prowls the stage and the soft-spoken, golf-obsessed family man who exists offstage. It's a tension Cooper has spoken about in interviews for years, but never with the depth a full memoir allows.
Cooper has remained remarkably active in recent years, continuing to tour relentlessly and release new music. His live shows still feature the elaborate horror-movie theatrics that made him famous, proving that the character he invented as a young man has only grown more resilient with age.
For fans who thought they already knew the story, *Devil on My Shoulder* appears poised to fill in the gaps. Third time, apparently, is the charm.
The memoir arrives Oct. 6 via his publisher. Pre-order details are expected soon.
