Violet Grohl Announces Debut Album 'Be Sweet to Me,' Drops '595'
Violet Grohl's debut album has a name, a date, and a surprisingly cheeky new single to go with it. 'Be Sweet to Me' is set for a May 29 release through Auroura Records and Republic Records (Island Records in the UK), and the latest taste — '595' — was literally inspired by a vintage t-shirt advertising a phone sex line. The track arrives with a music video directed by Nikki Milan Houston.
The album was recorded from late 2024 into early 2025 at the Los Angeles home studio of producer Justin Raisen, whose résumé includes work with Kim Gordon, Charli XCX, and Sky Ferreira. That pedigree alone sets a certain tone. Raisen assembled a cast of session musicians in the spirit of the legendary Wrecking Crew, the group of elite players who quietly shaped the sound of '60s and '70s pop and rock. It's a deliberately analog-minded approach for an artist who clearly isn't interested in chasing trends.
Grohl's sonic references confirm as much. The album draws heavily from late '80s and early '90s alternative — think Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins, the Breeders. "There's something so powerful about that period of music, from the messaging to the visuals, it's authentic and raw. I've listened to that stuff since I was a kid," she told Rolling Stone.
“Grohl signed her record deal in January 2026, making this a remarkably quick turnaround from ink on paper to a finished LP.”
We've already heard several tracks from the record. 'Thum' and 'Applefish' have been floating around, and 'What's Heaven Without You' carries real emotional weight — it was written in response to the devastating Altadena fires in Los Angeles and the death of filmmaker David Lynch. Paired against the playful energy of '595,' the rollout so far suggests a debut album with genuine range, not just one mood stretched across a tracklist.
Grohl signed her record deal in January 2026, making this a remarkably quick turnaround from ink on paper to a finished LP. Yes, she's the daughter of Dave Grohl, and that fact will follow her around for a while. But the producer choices, the reference points, and the emotional specificity of the material all point to someone building her own lane rather than coasting on a last name.
'Be Sweet to Me' will be available on standard black vinyl, a blueberry jam colorway exclusive to indie retailers, and an ivory pressing through Grohl's artist store. Keep an eye on her live schedule as the release date approaches — this is an album that sounds like it was built for a stage.
